Puig on flipping bird at Indians fans: 'I stooped to their level'

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig said his middle finger to Cleveland Indians fans after hitting a two-run homer in Tuesday's game was directed at "about four" hecklers, according to Brian Dulik of the Associated Press.

"People were talking to me before the home run, and they talked to me after the home run," Puig said.

"I reacted that way," he added, according to Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times. "I stooped to their level."

When he returned to the Dodgers' dugout, Puig was greeted by manager Dave Roberts and teammate Justin Turner, who seemed displeased by the gesture.

"If I get fined, I can't not pay it. I know I did it," Puig said, according to Dulik.

It remains to be seen what form of punishment the league will hand down, if any.

Antics aside, the first-inning homer marked Puig's 10th long ball of the season and his fifth straight campaign with double-digit round trippers. He hit 11 in both 2015 and 2016.
