Seahawks 'working at' signing Chancellor to extension

Kam Chancellor is entering the final year of his contract with the Seattle Seahawks, but it may not be the end of his tenure with the team.

Though Chancellor has said he has yet to engage in extension talks with the Seahawks, head coach Pete Carroll said the club would like to work toward locking up the strong safety to a long-term deal.

"We would very much like to work something out," Carroll said, according to Sheil Kapadia of ESPN. "We're working at it. And that's really all we'll say. But we are working at it with every intention of taking care of business. It takes awhile. Things take awhile."

Chancellor, who signed a four-year, $28-million extension with Seattle in 2013, has since made three Pro Bowls. He'll make north of $7.8 million in the 2017 season.

He continued his stellar play in 2016, ranking third on the team in tackles with 85, and adding two interceptions.

"I trust their word. I trust what they say. I'll just let it happen when it's supposed to happen," Chancellor said.
