Navy tackling machine Gilman transfers to Notre Dame

Notre Dame has looked to Navy for secondary help, as star safety Alohi Gilman announced Friday that he's joining the Fighting Irish via transfer.

The 6-foot, 195-pounder was a standout performer for the Midshipmen's defense, finishing second on the roster with 76 tackles and earning honorable mention All-AAC honors.

Gilman announced last week that he would seek to transfer from Navy and has now found his home with the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame is certainly familiar with what Gilman can do on the football field, as he led Navy in tackles with 12 in their 28-27 win over the Fighting Irish last season.

As per NCAA regulations, Gilman will have to sit out the 2017 season before becoming eligible the following year.
