Falcons to honor Roddy White, Michael Vick at retirement ceremony

The Atlanta Falcons will honor two of the biggest stars in franchise history, Roddy White and Michael Vick, at a special retirement ceremony June 12, the team announced Friday.

"We consider all former Falcons to be Falcons for life, and part of our family," team owner Arthur Blank said. "Both men have made a huge impact on my family, our franchise, and this city, and we are thrilled to be able to honor both Roddy and Michael's wishes to retire as Falcons, and celebrate their careers."

Though Vick recently suggested he would sign a contract to retire with the Falcons, that won't happen.

"We do not need a contract in place to consider them a part of our family and honor their decision to retire as a Falcon," said Blank.

Vick took the NFL by storm after the Falcons made him the first overall pick in 2001, but his time in Atlanta ended amid one of the biggest scandals in NFL history after it was revealed Vick played a key role in a dogfighting ring.

Vick spent time in prison, then went on to play for three other NFL teams.

White, the 27th overall pick in 2005, spent his entire NFL career with the Falcons. He owns franchise records for catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
