Ole Miss responds to NCAA Notice of Allegations: Freeze met expectations

Shanna Lockwood / USA TODAY Sports

Ole Miss has responded to the NCAA's second Notice of Allegations and while it does admit to wrongdoing, the Rebels also say the program never lost institutional control and head coach Hugh Freeze met expectations.

"Most importantly, the University contests the allegations concerning institutional control and head coach responsibility," the statement reads.

"Second, after careful analysis of the testimony and supporting records, the University has concluded that head football coach Hugh Freeze has met it and membership’s expectations to emphasize and promote compliance and to implement strong and comprehensive monitoring."

The football program is facing 21 compliance allegations, with the most serious being Freeze violated his responsibility and that there was a lack of institutional control.

Ole Miss self-imposed penalties earlier this year after its own investigation. Among the notable were a post-season bowl ban that will cost the school almost $8 million in revenue and a double-digit reduction of scholarships.

It remains to be seen how soon the NCAA will levy any penalties or if what Ole Miss has done already will suffice.
