Jerry West on LaVar Ball: 'I wouldn't want a father like that'

The Logo doesn't think LaVar Ball's antics are a good look.

Hall of Famer Jerry West gave a candid assessment of basketball's most famous dad Thursday, telling "The Dan Patrick Show" that the senior Ball is creating unnecessary distractions for highly touted son Lonzo.

"Frankly, I don't even like to talk about his dad. I'd rather talk about the kid," West told Patrick. "His dad, to me ... I wouldn't want a father like that, to be honest with you. Because I think he puts added pressure on his kid. You know he loves his kid. You know that. But it should be about his kids, not about him."

West, an executive consultant to the Golden State Warriors, was the general manager of the Los Angeles Lakers from 1982-2000. Lonzo Ball is expected to be available when the Lakers pick second in this month's draft, and several indicators point to L.A. selecting the Chino Hills native.

Lakers president Magic Johnson has already said multiple times that the presence of LaVar Ball will have no impact on the team's draft strategy.
