Kansas State's Snyder: Sutton free to leave, but won't be released

A day after wide receiver Corey Sutton blasted Bill Snyder for not releasing him from his scholarship, the Kansas State head coach responded, and it doesn't sound like he's changing his mind over the decision.

Sutton provided the school with a list of 35 transfer destinations that he would consider, but the school denied every single one just a week after the fact.

"I've always said that a youngster is free to leave, but I'm not going to release the youngster," Snyder told Kevin Keitzman of WHB 810 AM, as per Kellis Robinett of the Wichita Eagle. "It doesn't mean that he can't go someplace else and play. He can certainly do that. He wouldn't be on athletic scholarship for a year's period of time, but could still go and play and then have a scholarship after that."

Sutton is allowed to leave Kansas State and join another team without obtaining his release, however, he can only receive an athletic scholarship from a program for next season if he's granted his release.

As one might imagine, the financial commitment needed to attend an FBS program is extremely significant, taking away that option for Sutton.

"I don't have enough money for that," Sutton said. "(Snyder) is trying to treat me like I am his kid. Why is he treating a 19-year-old like that and trying to change his life like that?"

The freshman wideout appeared in 10 games last season but caught only four passes for 54 yards.
