Malik Zaire still pondering transfer decision

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Malik Zaire still hasn't made up his mind on a new destination.

Despite reports saying he is off to Florida and waiting for an SEC rule change, Zaire still appeared undecided when speaking to ESPN's Tom VanHaaren on Thursday.

"As soon as possible," Zaire said about his decision. "I want to get in before fall camp and before school starts so I can be around the guys and get rolling on those relationships."

Wisconsin, North Carolina, Texas, and Florida are the schools the former Notre Dame quarterback is eyeing, but joining the Gators wouldn't be easy. Jim McElwain and company grabbed a pair of grad transfers in 2015 that failed to meet academic requirements, meaning the Gators aren't able to accept another grad transfer until 2018.

The SEC rule is being voted on Friday, so perhaps Zaire is waiting for that decision before making his.

Wherever Zaire ends up, he only has one goal in mind.

"I'm going in to win a championship," Zaire said. "That's the whole goal."
