Manchester United's resolve has reportedly been tested.

The Red Devils have turned down Real Madrid's £60-million offer for David De Gea, sources told Sky Sports.

As anticipated, Los Blancos have apparently revived their interest in the Spanish goalkeeper, whom they almost signed on the final day of the 2015 summer transfer window. An administrative error meant the deal could not go through, and instead of moving back to his homeland, De Gea signed a new contract until June 2019.

De Gea has the option to extend his current deal by another 12 months, and the latest signs indicate he is not agitating for a move back to the Spanish capital.

The Guardian's Jamie Jackson, along with James Cooper of Sky Sports, reported this week that United feels it is in a much better position to resist Madrid's attempts this time around. Qualifying for next season's Champions League has certainly helped, and his contract situation is not as dire as it was in 2015, when he had just a year remaining on his agreement.

The bid for De Gea - more than three times the £18.9-million fee United paid to acquire the goalkeeper from Atletico - would have made him by far the most expensive goalkeeper of all time.

Manchester City is on the verge of breaking the record with the purchase of Benfica's Ederson for a reported £34.9 million.
