Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones noticed something important during his team's rise in popularity during the 2016 season.

Millennials like cheering for other millennials.

With rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott becoming stars in Dallas and across the league, Jones believes that finding more successful young players will be the key to keeping millennials interested in football.

In an interview with Cheddar, Jones was asked what he thinks is next for the Cowboys and the league over the next few decades as millennials take over the workforce.

"I saw what the millennials did when Zeke Elliott and Dak Prescott hit the field," said Jones. "All of a sudden, millennials by the thousands started getting interested in the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys. And watching it in even a more traditional way.

"So, it's always been about that, it's been about the excitement of the players. You enthuse millennials and they get excited about our game. And we should never forget that: it's about the game."

Prescott and Elliott had an unprecedented amount of success as rookie teammates, finishing first and second, respectively, in Rookie of the Year voting, leading the Cowboys to an NFC-best 13-3 record, and producing the best merchandising sales in the league.
