McKinnon: Don't count me out of Vikings' RB battle

The Minnesota Vikings brought aboard Latavius Murray and drafted Dalvin Cook this offseason, moves that should signal a changing of the guard at running back.

But while the Vikings determine who will supplant Adrian Peterson as their new lead running back, his former backup would like a say.

"Don't count me out," Jerick McKinnon said to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "That's always my goal (to start). I'm competitive. I think it will be a good way to evaluate myself and see where I stack up against them."

McKinnon has been afforded opportunities to take the lead role in the past. He started six of the 11 games he played in during his rookie season in 2014 and started seven more last year. He failed to take the job outright, however, and will be hard-pressed to hold off both Murray and Cook.
