Ainge: Celtics have enough cap room to keep Thomas, Bradley

Danny Ainge appears to have every intention of keeping his starting backcourt intact.

While guards Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley are both set to hit unrestricted free agency at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season, the Celtics president and general manager believes Boston will have enough cap space to sign the pair to long-term deals next summer.

"Yeah, we can fit everybody in," Ainge told Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald. "But, listen, those are questions that I don't even have answers for yet. That's part of the difficult puzzle that is all hard."

After finishing near the top of the league in scoring in each of the past two seasons, it's almost a foregone conclusion that Thomas will command a max-level contract when he becomes a free agent next summer. While Ainge knows that keeping the 5-foot-9 guard won't come cheap, he won't think twice about trying to re-sign the two-time All-Star.

"All I'm saying is those are things I have to worry about that even I don't like to think about," Ainge said. "And I know that those are going to be difficult decisions at some point. But we want to keep Isaiah.

"All I know is that he's had an amazing year, and who doesn't want Isaiah Thomas on their team? Like, you've got to be kidding me."

The Celtics have just over $36 million in guaranteed salaries for the 2018-19 season, giving them ample room to sign Bradley and Thomas should they stand pat in free agency this summer.
