Victor Valdes will officially leave Middlesbrough at the end of June after the club and World Cup winner agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent on Wednesday.

The former Barcelona shot-stopper surrendered the No. 1 spot to Brad Guzan in the final seven matches of the Premier League campaign due to a rib injury, and will now seek out what could be the last stop in a glittering career.

Valdes, 35, helped marshal a tough defence that belied Boro's final standing of 19th. He made 28 appearances after joining last summer, and showed remarkable reflexes for someone of his vintage. He was powerless to prevent flaccidness at the other end of the pitch, though - Boro scored a league-low 27 goals - which was critical in the club's relegation.

Middlesbrough will be on the lookout for two new goalkeepers, with Guzan set to join Major League Soccer side Atlanta United this summer.
