PGA picks: Rahm set for big debut at Colonial

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The PGA Tour stays in Texas this week for one of the most historic events on the calendar: the Dean & Deluca Invitational at Colonial Country Club.

Last year's winner, Jordan Spieth, will be a popular pick among pundits to win his hometown event for the second straight season, but he's not on our list this time around.

Here's who to bet on this week:

Favorite to watch (odds less than 30-1)

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm is at the point where he's almost a must-pick player for any betting board, and his first trip to Colonial is no different. Rahm's game translates to any golf course on the PGA Tour, and one with a focus on driving plays especially well to his strengths. The young Spaniard hasn't played since a horrific 82 in the third round at THE PLAYERS Championship, but has been under par in 27 of his last 32 rounds on tour. While his odds aren't great at 12-1, his talent will ensure he's around for the finish Sunday.

Odds to win: 12-1
Top-5 odds: 5-2

2nd tier (odds greater than 30-1)

Ryan Palmer

Nobody is more familiar with this golf course than Ryan Palmer, as the 40-year-old is a member at Colonial. The home-course advantage has been huge for him in recent years, as he's posted three top-five finishes in the last five years at the event. Despite missing the cut two weeks ago at THE PLAYERS Championship, he has been in good form lately, with two top-15 finishes in his last four starts. At 33-1, it's worth a small wager to back the local favorite.

Odds to win: 33-1
Top-5 odds: 13-2

Long shot (odds greater than 60-1)

Graham DeLaet

While his scrambling stats are slightly concerning, the rest of Graham DeLaet's game makes him likely to contend at this week's event. The Canadian ranks 17th on tour in strokes gained: off-the-tee, a very important number on Colonial's tight fairways. He also ranks 21st in strokes-gained putting, and that makes him a dangerous player on the speedy greens this week. He's never won on tour, but his talent is too rich for that to continue for long. Don't be shocked if this is the week he holds his first trophy.

Odds to win: 80-1
Top-5 odds: 14-1

Super long shot (odds greater than 125-1)

Mackenzie Hughes

Mackenzie Hughes is already a winner in his first season on the PGA Tour, and is coming into Colonial following a 16th-place showing at THE PLAYERS Championship. The 26-year-old Canadian has already established himself as one of the top putters on the circuit, ranking 10th in strokes-gained on the greens this year - an important stat on the speedy surfaces in Fort Worth.

Odds to win: 175-1
Top-5 odds: 33-1

Hit this bet, buy a car (odds greater than 175-1)

Bryson DeChambeau

Given his recent form, there's no reason to pick Bryson DeChambeau this week at Colonial. The 23-year-old has missed his last five cuts and hasn't broken 70 in his last eight rounds, but recent results on the PGA Tour show that recent form isn't a good way to pick winners. Si Woo Kim had failed to break 70 in 17 straight rounds prior to winning THE PLAYERS Championship two weeks ago, and Billy Horschel had missed four straight cuts before winning last week. Can DeChambeau be the next player to turn around his season with a win? At 200-1, it's worth a small bet.

Odds to win: 200-1
Top-5 odds: 35-1
