Things haven't gone all that well this year for the Miami Marlins, who sit in last place in the National League East at 15-28, but Dee Gordon, their diminutive second baseman, is simply relieved he made it out of Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers alive.

In the bottom of the eighth inning at Chavez Ravine, Gordon's life flashed before his eyes as he tracked a pop fly off the bat of Kike Hernandez into shallow right field and nearly collided with Giancarlo Stanton, the 6-foot-6, 245-pound behemoth who was also trying to flag the ball down.

Gordon, a Gold Glove award winner in 2015, never saw Stanton call him off, but somehow managed to avoid serious bodily harm on the play, tumbling past the burly right fielder after coming up empty on his diving attempt - Stanton ended up making the catch - before getting to his feet unscathed.

"I'm just glad I didn't die," Gordon told Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald following his team's 6-3 loss.
