Lions' Tabor brushes off speed concerns: I'm not trying out for the Olympics

Detroit Lions cornerback Teez Tabor entered the pre-draft process as a contender to be named the top player available at his position - but didn't finish that way.

After a poor 40-yard dash time sunk him into the second round, Tabor is denying that concerns about his speed will be an issue.

"My strength is football," Tabor said on Friday, according to his team website. "I play football. I don't run track. I'm trying out for the NFL. Not the Olympics. So, I'm in a pretty good spot."

Tabor - a two-time First-team All-SEC player at Florida - is confident that he'll be able to look back on these concerns "a couple years down the line" and laugh. But for now, he'll use the doubts as motivation.

"It adds fuel to the fire," Tabor said. "It's like when you tell someone they can't do something then you're basically making them try even harder to do what you're telling them they can't do."

With Darius Slay and D.J. Hayden expected to be the Lions' starting cornerback duo, Tabor will likely compete for playing time in the slot with Nevin Lawson, Quandre Diggs, and Johnson Bademosi in training camp and during the season.
