Eagles, Blount agree to 1-year deal
The Philadelphia Eagles and free-agent running back LeGarrette Blount have agreed to terms on a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Official terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but the former New England Patriots ball-carrier has the opportunity to make up to $2.8 million in Philadelphia, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports, citing sources.
Much like he did for the better part of three-plus seasons with the Patriots, Blount provides the Eagles' offense with an ideal complement to smaller and shiftier backs.
The 30-year-old is coming off a career-best season that saw him run for 1,161 yards and a league-high 18 touchdowns.
Ryan Mathews remains on Eagles' roster for the time being and could get the opportunity to compete in training camp, but Blount should be the heavy favorite for early-down carries this season.
Blount joins a backfield rotation that also includes a pair of dynamic talents in Darren Sproles and fourth-round rookie Donnel Pumphrey, which should have the Eagles well-positioned to improve upon their 11th-ranked standing in the running game last season.
Mathews led all Eagles backs with just 661 rushing yards in 2016.
