Sebastian Vollmer is calling it a career after eight seasons in the NFL.

The veteran offensive tackle, who was released by the New England Patriots earlier this offseason, told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday that he plans to retire, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

Reports following the end of his stay in New England had indicated that Vollmer was indeed weighing the possibility of walking away. To this point in his two-plus months on the open market, though, he hadn't provided any sort of update on that front.

A 2009 second-round pick, the Germany native would go on to start in a total of 80 games for New England before missing the entire 2016 season with hip and shoulder injuries.
