After taking Rhode Island to its first NCAA tournament since 1999, head coach Danny Hurley has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension through the 2023-24 season.

"I appreciate the opportunity to continue to lead the Rhode Island men's basketball program", Hurley said in a statement. "I am thankful for the partnership we have with university leadership and look forward to working with President (David) Dooley and (athletic director) Thorr Bjorn as we continue to increase the profile and growth of Rhode Island basketball."

Hurley has been with the Rams since taking the job prior to the 2012-13 season, posting a record of 87-74 during his tenure.

After going just 22-39 in his first campaign with the Atlantic 10 program, Hurley has put up three straight winning seasons, including last year's 25-10 mark and conference tournament title. The Rams knocked off Creighton in the opening round of the NCAA tournament before losing a close contest to Final Four participant Oregon in the second round.
