Diamondbacks' Pollock lands on DL with groin strain

Just when things were looking up, A.J. Pollock gets snakebitten yet again.

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed Pollock on the 10-day disabled list Monday after he was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a right groin strain, the team announced.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Pollock suffered a Grade 1 strain, which is considered less severe than last year's groin injury, according to AZ Central Sports' Nick Piecoro.

The oft-injured outfielder missed all but 12 games in 2016 with a broken arm suffered in spring training. Pollock returned in late August before suffering a left groin strain in September, keeping him out for the remainder of the season.

He managed to play in 37 games this year before falling victim to the injury bug yet again.

It didn't seem like Pollock had missed a beat, either. He was hitting .299 with a pair of home runs, 12 doubles, three triples, and 11 stolen bases. It is unknown how much time he's expected to miss.

The team called up outfielder Reymond Fuentes from Triple-A to replace him on the MLB roster. Fuentes will get tossed to the wolves, as he's slated to bat leadoff in Monday's series opener against the New York Mets.
