Rays plan to start Ramirez on Monday after he saved game Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Erasmo Ramirez is certainly providing his club with plenty of versatility.

During a more than six-hour contest between the Rays and Minnesota Twins on Sunday, Ramirez was called upon in the 15th inning with his team leading.

Ramirez wound up earning the save after throwing 12 pitches to complete the inning, but his dutiful work doesn't appear to have earned him a night off Monday.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said he plans to start Ramirez on Monday when the Rays travel to Texas to play the Rangers.

Tampa Bay used eight pitchers on Sunday, but Ramirez's low pitch count combined with an 8:05 p.m. ET start time Monday in Texas should provide the 27-year-old - who has split his big-league career between the rotation and bullpen - with enough rest to make the start.
