Jeter: 'Absolutely nothing' to report on involvement with Marlins

With Derek Jeter officially becoming immortalized among fellow New York Yankees greats during his number retirement ceremony Sunday, the question for the iconic shortstop is: what comes next?

Jeter is set to become a father in the next few months, and also has been heavily rumored to be among a group bidding to buy the Miami Marlins where he could possibly serve in a front office role. Jeter, however, steered clear of linking himself to the Marlins when asked Sunday.

"There's nothing to report on that. Absolutely nothing," Jeter said, according to Randy Miller of NJ.com. "I think sometimes with stories people get ahead of themselves and that was a story where people got way ahead of themselves a few weeks back. So there's nothing to report. If there's something to report, I'll let you know."

It was reported in late April that a group led by Jeter and Jeb Bush had an agreement in principle to buy the Marlins from owner Jeffrey Loria. Commissioner Rob Manfred denied the report several days later saying there were multiple groups still left in contention, with no bid having been accepted.

Bush said earlier this month he's confident his group can purchase the team for an estimated $1.3 billion.
