Harper after walk-off HR: 'Just trying to be like John Wall'

The misery from the Washington Capitals' playoff series defeat Wednesday was quickly followed by two magical sports moments in the nation's capital.

Wizards point guard John Wall forced Game 7 against the Boston Celtics on Friday with a game-winning 3-pointer in the final seconds, and Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper clubbed a two-run, walk-off homer in the ninth inning Saturday night to give his club an 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

"Just trying to be like John Wall, walk them off a little bit," Harper told reporters following the win, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASN.

It's been quite the 24 hours for not only the city, but for Harper himself. Earlier Saturday afternoon, the four-time All-Star agreed to terms on a record $21.65-million salary for 2018 that buys out his final season of arbitration.

With the deal, Harper became the highest-paid arbitration-eligible player in MLB history, surpassing David Price's $19.75 million record signed in 2015.

"Nobody can say he ain't worth the money," Nationals manager Dusty Baker told Zuckerman after the win.
