Edgar wins via doctor stoppage after mauling Rodriguez for 2 rounds
Yair Rodriguez wasn't ready.
The highly touted prospect received his UFC comeuppance in brutal fashion from Frankie Edgar on Saturday. The veteran took him down and beat his left eye shut for two rounds, earning a TKO when the attending physician ruled Rodriguez unfit to answer the third-round bell of their featherweight bout at UFC 211 in Dallas.

Edgar derailed the Rodriguez hype train with a vintage performance, putting the 24-year-old on his heels with pressure striking before bringing him to the canvas with a high-crotch takedown. "The Answer" then proceeded to rain hellfire on his foe's dome for the remainder of a lopsided Round 1.

The former lightweight champ had to work his way out of a kneebar attempt after opening the second frame with another takedown, but resumed his schooling of Rodriguez via vicious ground-and-pound upon gaining full mount. The swelling Edgar's mitts induced had practically halved Rodriguez's vision by round's end, hence the doctor's merciful decision to end the youngster's night early.
Rodriguez has now tasted defeat for the first time in seven trips to the Octagon. The lopsided loss snaps the Mexico native's eight-fight win streak and drops his professional record to 10-2.
