Bengals' Lewis wants Adam Jones to work on off-field image

The number of incidents Adam Jones has found himself a part of this offseason is even too much for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Head coach Marvin Lewis admitted his veteran cornerback needs to make a concerted effort to stay out of trouble after he was arrested in January for assault and disorderly conduct and was accused of spitting on a nurse.

"He's got to continually work at that," Lewis said on the "NFL No Huddle" podcast when asked about Jones' public perception, according to Katherine Terrell of ESPN.

"He's a passionate teammate for these guys. A diligent pro. He's got to just continue to handle himself within the scope of day to day and be a great pro. He's overcome background, and it's a day-to-day process. Most importantly, he's at the point in his career where these things have to stay pointed towards football."

Jones can't afford to keep making negative headlines. There's a potential out in his contract after the 2017 season. Though he remains a productive pro, he's entering his 11th season for a team that might face large-scale changes with another down year.
