Memphis gives Mike Norvell 1-year extension

Memphis and head coach Mike Norvell have agreed to a one-year contract extension that includes a significant salary-pool increase for his staff, the school confirmed Friday.

Norvell is coming off his first season with the Tigers, where he compiled an 8-5 record. He was hired to replace Justin Fuente following a four-year stint as the offensive coordinator at Arizona State.

Norvell's contract was set to expire after the 2020 season, so the extension will keep him locked up through the 2021 campaign.

His salary won't increase from the $1.86 million he was scheduled to make next season under the terms of the new deal, a source told Tom Schad and Geoff Calkins of The Commercial Appeal.
