Tony Brown becomes 3rd WR to leave Texas Tech this offseason

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

Tony Brown has become the third wide receiver to depart prematurely from Texas Tech this offseason, announcing his transfer from the program via Twitter.

The two-year Red Raider follows in the footsteps of standout pass-catcher Jonathan Giles, the Big 12's fourth-leading receiver last year, and veteran Ian Sadler, who called it quits due to injury.

Brown hauled in 13 receptions for 128 yards last season, and between him, Giles, and Sadler, the Red Raiders are set to lose 1,649 receiving yards from last year's squad. Of course, Texas Tech also needs to replace quarterback Patrick Mahomes and repair a porous defense.

Brown will have two years of eligibility wherever he lands, but must sit out a season if he transfers to another FBS school, per NCAA requirements for undergraduates.
