Watch: Polanco ends Greinke's no-hit bid with 8th-inning HR

Gregory Polanco barely missed a home run on the first pitch of the at-bat. He wasn't about to make a mistake on the fifth one.

The Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder hammered a 417-foot solo home run off Zack Greinke to lead off the eighth inning Thursday and end the Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander's no-hit bid.

Polanco hit the first pitch of the at-bat just foul down the right-field line, but was able to keep the ball between the foul poles when he connected on an 84-mph slider.

Greinke struck out 11 and allowed one walk prior to the Polanco home run. He retired the next three batters to end the eighth. It was the longest Greinke had ever held a no-hit bid.

There have been two no-hitters in Diamondbacks history. Edwin Jackson tossed one in 2010, and Randy Johnson achieved the feat when he tossed a perfect game in 2004.
