The Buffalo Bills named Brandon Beane as their next general manager Tuesday.

Beane was promoted from Carolina Panthers director of football operations to assistant general manager in 2015, and had received interim GM status in 2012 before the franchise hired Dave Gettleman. Beane also interviewed for the 49ers' general manager vacancy, which San Francisco filled by hiring John Lynch.

The Bills are scheduled to hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. ET Friday.

Bills owner Terry Pegula released the following statement:

During our search for a new General Manager, Brandon stood out to Kim and I as he embodies the type of leader and type of person we want in our organization. Brandon has excelled in a variety of roles for a Panthers team that has consistently competed at a high-level in this league. We feel his vast understanding and experience in many facets of football operations will be invaluable to our club moving forward. We also believe his vision for the Buffalo Bills combined with his detailed approach will help build a foundation for sustained success. We are pleased to welcome Brandon and his family to Buffalo.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott was reportedly involved in Beane's hiring and has a strong rapport with him based on their shared tenure with the Panthers. McDermott, who was hired Jan. 11, was previously Carolina's defensive coordinator.

Buffalo fired Doug Whaley on April 30, one day after the 2017 NFL Draft concluded.
