Trust the Process: Embiid will represent 76ers at draft lottery

USA Today Sports

Joel Embiid is the process personified, so it's only right that he represents the Philadelphia 76ers at the draft lottery.

Embiid, the crown jewel produced by years of tanking, will attend the 2017 draft lottery on behalf of the 76ers next Tuesday, according to Keith Pompey of Philly.com.

Philadelphia holds an 11.9 percent chance of winning the No. 1 overall pick, as the Sixers look to win the lottery for the second consecutive season. That top selection could land the team its point guard of the future in Markelle Fultz or Lonzo Ball.

The 76ers have drafted several top prospects in exchange for years of futility, but nobody has yet showed true star potential other than Embiid. Nerlens Noel was flipped at the most recent trade deadline, Jahlil Okafor became trade bait by his sophomore year, Ben Simmons has yet to make his NBA debut due to a broken foot, and Dario Saric projects to be more of a decent starter, rather than a superstar in the making.

The 23-year-old Embiid comes with major injury concerns of his own, but he was phenomenal through 31 appearances in his rookie year. He averaged 20.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks in just 25.4 minutes per game and proved to be a game-changing force on both ends of the floor. He turned an otherwise hopeless Sixers side into a competitive team when he was on the court.
