The Montreal Impact announced Tuesday the club has signed Blerim Dzemaili as a Designated Player on loan from Bologna, bringing the Swiss international from one team owned by Joey Saputo to the other after the 31-year-old scored nine goals this season in Serie A.

The former Genoa, Napoli, and Parma man brings a wealth of experience and links up with a fellow former Bologna attacker in Matteo Mancosu, who is currently dealing with injury. Dzemaili is the third Designated Player on Montreal's roster, and is expected to slot in behind Mancosu and operate as a traditional attacking midfielder, with Ignacio Piatti out wide on the left.

The 56-times capped Switzerland veteran has some lofty expectations thrust on him already, as the playoff-contending Impact of last year have slumped to 10th in the Eastern Conference, with just two wins, three losses, and four draws in the first nine matches of the 2017 MLS season.
