St-Pierre doubts Silva's stock is high enough to warrant superfight

A superfight with Anderson Silva doesn't sound so super to Georges St-Pierre anymore.

The welterweight great recently saw UFC president Dana White put the kibosh on his dateless comeback bout with middleweight champ Michael Bisping, which freed him up for a long-discussed blockbuster opposite a fellow legend in Silva. But as St-Pierre recently told TSN, the timing for the would-be bout isn't ideal, as the Brazilian's star isn't shining as bright as it did when he was at the peak of his powers.

"It could happen; it depends on the condition (because) fights are about timing," St-Pierre said, according to Mike Bohn of MMAjunkie. "Sometimes the guy's stock are higher, and sometimes it’s lower. You want the guy that the stock is the highest. It fluctuates. I don’t think his stock right now is very high. He’s a legend for the stuff he has done in the past, but he’s not the same as he was back in the day."

Demand for a meeting between St-Pierre and Silva grew as they cleaned house at welterweight and middleweight, respectively. But during the former's three-plus years away from the sport, the latter has gone a miserable 1-3 and seen a win over Nick Diaz at UFC 183 overturned after testing positive for banned substances in a slump that's presumably responsible for GSP's reluctance to tangle with him.

The returning St-Pierre signed on to challenge Bisping and end a layoff dating back to November 2013 earlier this year, only for White to scrap the bout when GSP revealed he wouldn't be ready to return until after October. With a disgruntled Silva recently threatening to retire and St-Pierre's sights currently set elsewhere, the long-discussed matchup may forever remain just that.
