This week's winners and losers from the golf world

Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Winners:

Si Woo Kim

  • Won THE PLAYERS Championship
  • Walked away with $1.89 million
  • Gained 600 FedEx Cup points
  • Five-year exemption on tour
  • Three-exemption into the majors

Rory McIlroy

The world No. 2 signed a deal with TaylorMade this week for a reported $100 million. McIlroy also has a $200-million deal with Nike, to wear the apparel and footwear. The Northern Irishman is essentially making "Tiger-like" money these days.

Rickie Fowler

The 28-year-old's chances of winning a second PLAYERS title ended at the par-4 18th on Saturday, when his ball stayed in a tree, en route to a triple-bogey seven. After Fowler took questions from the media, he made one young fan's day, signing the ball that was stuck in the tree just moments before.

Sawgrass' 17th

The hole is just 137 yards, but it remains to be a mental hurdle for the world's best golfers. The famous island green played the fourth most difficult hole this week, with 3.231 being the average score. In all, 69 golf balls found the water this week, the second most since 2003.

Losers:

Billy Horschel

Horschel missed the cut on Friday, posting 7-over par, but it's what he did at the par-3 13th and the response that was pathetic. The Florida native tossed his club at his caddie after chipping in for bogey, then took to Twitter to explain the situation on Saturday. Horschel got to the point 1:14 into the video post, then ended the post by saying, "you guys give me all the flack you want."

Weekends for Mickelson

The 46-year-old decided to skip playing a practice round in an effort to preserve energy this week at THE PLAYERS, but after opening rounds of 70 and 72, Mickelson faded again on the weekend.

Event Round 3 Round 4
Pebble Beach 69 77
Genesis 71 69
WGC-Mexico 68 71
Houston Open 74 70
Masters 74 72
Wells Fargo 69 72
TPC 78 71

It's become a common theme this year for the World Golf Hall of Famer, and he'll try and solve the problem in his next event, which is likely The Memorial.
