After making her long-awaited UFC debut in May, Cris Cyborg will have to negotiate a new contract with the promotion soon, according to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, citing multiple sources.

Cyborg's contract is set to expire in October 2017, regardless of how many fights are left on it. The 31-year-old fighter said she has two bouts remaining on her deal, according to Duane Finley of FloCombat.

Her brief tenure with the Octagon can be explained by the seven-fight contract she signed with Zuffa in March 2015. Because the UFC did not have a 145-pound division at the time, officials decided it would be best for Cyborg to stay with the all-female promotion Invicta FC, another Zuffa-affiliated property.

Cyborg fought three times for Invicta while dealing with questions about when the UFC would call her up and whether she could cut down to 135 pounds to fight Ronda Rousey. She finally made the walk to the Octagon in 2016, winning a pair of 140-lb catchweight bouts.

With two fights left, Cyborg has been trying to book a clash with UFC women's featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie, but "The Iron Lady" is out of action until she decides whether to undergo hand surgery.

The UFC's featherweight division is composed of just three fighters, and officials will have to do something with their Brazilian star soon or risk wasting her talents before she takes them elsewhere.
