Liverpool has confidence it can negotiate a fee below Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's £35-million asking price, according to The Telegraph's James Ducker, as the England international approaches the end of his contract with Arsenal.

Manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly wants to add to a growing contingent of English players at Anfield, with Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson, Nathaniel Clyne, and James Milner already securing spots in the German's starting XI this season.

Ducker believes the Gunners haven't yet discussed a new contract with Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose deal runs out in June 2018, but that talks are scheduled in June and July.

Making just 12 Premier League starts, the 23-year-old is the latest Arsenal player to face the temptation of a summer escape. Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Kieran Gibbs, and Jack Wilshere also have contracts that expire at the end of next season.

But there appears to be a feeling on Merseyside that the Reds can drive down Oxlade-Chamberlain's price and take advantage of the overwhelming uncertainty in north London.

Although recent reports suggest Arsene Wenger will remain in charge of Arsenal for the foreseeable future, the club's current sixth-place standing, coupled with Oxlade-Chamberlain's sporadic minutes, could force the Southampton academy graduate to consider relaunching his career elsewhere.
