Report: Crystal Palace to offer Zaha lucrative new deal this summer
Wary of interest from Premier League suitors, Crystal Palace is set to offer winger Wilfried Zaha a new contract in the summer that would make the Ivory Coast international the highest-paid player at the club, reports the Guardian's Ed Aarons.
If the two parties come to an agreement, Zaha, 24, would earn more than teammate Christian Benteke's current £110,000-a-week stipend, Aarons adds.
Having already dismissed Tottenham's advances for its academy product, Palace is hoping it can convince Zaha to continue his development in south London.
A move to Manchester United in 2013 didn't work out for either club or player - Zaha suggested he felt "worthless" and "frustrated" during his time at Old Trafford - although Aarons believes Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea could hand Zaha another shot at the big time.
Zaha, whose contract with the Eagles expires in 2020, has become one of Sam Allardyce's protagonists in the fight to stave off relegation and remain in the Premier League for a fifth consecutive season. With a goal and an assist in Saturday's shocking win over champion-elect Cheslea, he displayed his all-around ability.
Allardyce raved about Zaha's performance after the Stamford Bridge scalp, comparing his style to that of Chelsea standout and reported Real Madrid target Eden Hazard.
"I think his ability is something that Wilf can look at and try to match," said Allardyce in quotes published by ESPN FC. "But he's realising his potential by the way he's playing. The potential's becoming a reality."
Zaha has six goals and seven assists in 25 Premier League starts.
