Borussia Monchengladbach announced Thursday that promising young midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud has decided to join Borussia Dortmund for an undisclosed fee when the season ends.

Dahoud is the latest player to join Dortmund's impressive crop of midfielders after agreeing to a five-year deal with Thomas Tuchel's side.

"It was a very tough decision for Mo. It's a shame that we're losing a talent like him, but we have always managed to compensate for departures in the past," Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl said.

Gladbach manager Deter Hecking added: "Borussia has shown in recent years that we can compensate well for losing players of his quality."

The Bundesliga side reportedly rejected approaches from Liverpool before agreeing to sell the 21-year-old to Dortmund.

According to Ed Aarons of the Guardian, the deal was completed after Gladbach accepted Dortmund's €12-million offer.

"Mo Dahoud is a highly talented and exciting player for central midfield, whom we have been watching intensively for several years. He has already demonstrated that he can play at the top level," Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said in a club statement, as translated by DW Sports.

Since joining Gladbach from Fortuna Dusseldorf's academy in 2010, the Syrian-born midfielder has developed into one of the top young talents in the Bundesliga and has been a first-team regular since the 2013-14 campaign.

Dahoud has scored seven goals in all competitions for Gladbach, and has also won six caps with the Under-21 Germany international team.

In February, Dortmund also announced that defender Omer Toprak will join the club from Bayer Leverkusen when the season concludes.
