Faber: VanZant no longer in California, still welcome at Team Alpha Male

Paige VanZant is moving back to Oregon, which means time apart from her adopted California family.

The 22-year-old UFC strawweight has been affiliated with the Team Alpha Male camp in Sacramento for the past few years, but close friend and mentor Urijah Faber confirmed rumors that VanZant could be training closer to her old stomping grounds from now on.

"She's probably going to set up a home camp in Oregon, and I imagine she'll probably travel for her camps," Faber told Steven Marrocco of MMAjunkie. "I don't know if she'll travel here, or travel to L.A. But she's welcome here, obviously."

VanZant has not officially announced a camp switch herself, but Bellator fighter Chael Sonnen recently said on his podcast that VanZant would be training at Gracie Barra in Portland.

Regardless, Faber is keeping the Alpha Male doors open for Vanzant.

"I'm not sure if she's planning on doing that here or not," Faber said. "We spoke briefly about it. I told her she's always welcome. That's a better question for her.

"She hasn't officially said, 'I'm never coming back.' If it were up to me, I'd have her training in here all year round and having guys watch over her. But she's got a unique setup, being a girl that's from Oregon, living in Reno (Nev.), coming to Sacramento, being in the limelight so much."

In addition to her cagefighting responsibilities, VanZant has become a popular name in Hollywood following a star-making performance on season 22 of "Dancing with the Stars." She recently declined entertainment offers outside of the Octagon ahead of her most recent fight against Michelle Waterson, which VanZant lost by first-round submission.
