Report: Nate Diaz applying for boxing license in Nevada

If Conor McGregor can apply for a boxing license, so can Nate Diaz.

It appears the younger Diaz brother will continue to tie his career to the current lightweight champ as he is applying for a boxing license in the state of Nevada, according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN.

Such a move was confirmed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, according to Okamoto, but required that Diaz pay a fine he accrued for his water-bottle throwing incident with McGregor at a press conference in August.

"Nate paid his fine and has requested a boxing license," the commission's executive director Bob Bennett said. "Upon his submission of the required licensing information, we expect to approve his license as of this date."

McGregor, Diaz's foe, attained a boxing license in the state of California in December. He and boxing star Floyd Mayweather Jr. have been posturing about a possible bout.

Since 2015, Diaz's only two fights have come against McGregor. He earned a submission victory in their first bout at UFC 196 in May 2016 and he gave up a majority decision at UFC 202 in August.

With McGregor expected to move on from the rivalry to continue his lightweight division reign, perhaps Diaz sees boxing as the only way he can face McGregor again.
