Kaepernick benched after throwing for 4 yards through 3 quarters
Chip Kelly has seen enough.
After Colin Kaepernick completed just one pass for four yards by the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears, the San Francisco 49ers head coach benched his starting quarterback in favor of backup Blaine Gabbert.
Kaepernick regained his starting job in Week 6, but has been unable to lead the Niners to a victory in six-plus weeks of play.
Snow was falling at Soldier Field throughout the game, but opposing quarterback Matt Barkley completed 10-of-17 passes for 186 yards in the same amount of time.
Kaepernick was more productive on the ground, running for 20 yards on six carries. However, he was also sacked five times, a bigger total than his passing yards.
Gabbert's first completion in place of Kaepernick went for 18 yards.
Gabbert had started the first five games of the season, but he was pulled in place of Kaepernick due to poor play of his own.
