John Wall to garner award for charitable efforts to end homelessness

John Wall is exemplary both on and off the court.

The National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty announced Wednesday it will honor the Washington Wizards star Thursday at its annual awards ceremony in D.C. - for his work in the community to end homelessness.

Wall will pick up the Stewart B. McKinney Award, which is given to "leaders who exemplify the patriotism and compassion," for giving back to impoverished communities through the John Wall Family Foundation.

He donated $400,000 last year towards battling youth homelessness in Washington, and spent time meeting and speaking with local children.

The All-Star was the recipient of the 2016 NBA Community Assist Award. Upon being bestowed the recognition, he said "I consider the outreach that I do to be the most rewarding part of being an NBA player."
