Fantasy Football Newspage: Sunday, August 21

Here are the key news and notes for Sunday:

Backfield timeshare in Jacksonville

This doesn't come as a huge surprise, but Hays Carolyn of the Florida Times Union expects the Jaguars backfield to be a 50/50 split this season.

Fantasy Impact: Backfield timeshares are the mortal enemy of fantasy players. Chris Ivory is the safer Jaguars RB to own. He has more experience with goal-line work and is the superior pass-blocker. Second-year back T.J. Yeldon is a better receiver and has the frame to be an adequate pass blocker, but he struggled in the red zone last year, picking up just two rushing touchdowns.

Dion Lewis to start season on PUP

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Patriots RB Dion Lewis will start the season on the PUP list. This will cost him at least the first six games of the regular season.

Fantasy Impact: Draft RB LeGarrette Blount. With Tom Brady suspended for the first four weeks, Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels may opt for a power-running offense for the first quarter of the season. They will face a weak Dolphins defense, a potentially J.J. Watt-less Texans team and a Marcell Dareus-less Bills squad. Click here for an in-depth fantasy fallout on Lewis.

Injury misunderstanding surrounding Ladarius Green

Michael Fabiano of NFL Media is reporting that there is some confusion around Steelers TE Ladarius Green's injury situation. He had apparently been dealing with headaches, but Green brushed those aside.

Fantasy Imapct: Green is a very talented player. He was the backup to Antonio Gates in San Diego for several season before joining the Steelers this offseason. He was looked as a late-round, high-upside TE in a fantasy-friendly Steelers offense, but considering the surprising depth at the position this season, it might be best to take a wait-and-see approach for now with Green.

Denver's Virgil Green may have a 'breakout season'

Among the observations by Denverbroncos.com's Aric DiLalla after Saturday's 31-24 preseason loss to the 49ers was that TE Virgil Green "looks ready for a career season." Green caught four passes for 57 yards, and showed a strong connection with QB Trevor Siemian, who could possibly open the season as the starter.

Fantasy Impact: FantasyPros doesn't even assign an ADP to Green, meaning that he's going undrafted in nearly all formats. The Denver offense doesn't project as a strength, so there's really no reason to draft Green. It's best to wait and see if he can build off his strong showing once the season starts before possibly adding him. It won't take much for Green to have a breakout, given that last season's 12 receptions for 173 yards represented career-highs.

Paxton Lynch could start Week 1

Sticking with the Broncos, head coach Gary Kubiak stated that rookie first-round pick Paxton Lynch could still win the starting QB job. Neither Mark Sanchez nor Trevor Siemian are by any means running away with the job.

Fantasy Impact: Though Lynch is raw and has zero NFL experience, he would still be the best bet to help the fantasy value of WRs Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. He would surely go through some growing pains, but he has a the cannon arm to push the ball downfield.
