NFL not planning to move Hall of Fame game

Despite the embarrassing cancellation of 2016's first NFL preseason game, there are no plans to move the Hall of Fame game out of Canton, Ohio.

League spokesman Brian McCarthy told Joe Scalzo of the Canton Repository that the NFL has had "absolutely no discussions" about moving the game away from its current site at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

"We are spending time with the Hall, and turf suppliers to determine what happened to make sure what happened in Canton doesn’t occur in other games," McCarthy said. "The NFL has a tremendous amount of respect for (Hall president) David Baker and the Hall of Fame and the entire community in Canton. Obviously, there were disappointed fans who were there and we were disappointed for the people of Canton who are tremendous hosts. We respect all the hard work that goes into hosting this weekend."

The Hall is planning to provide refunds for tickets by the end of August, but will not refund any other expenses after Sunday's game was cancelled due to unplayable field conditions brought on by the use of congealed paint.

No refunds will be given to fans who purchased tickets on secondary markets.

The Hall's president Baker told ESPN that the refund is expected to cost the nonprofit organization approximately $4 million.

The cancellation was agreed to without much resistance from teams and players, as it was an extra exhibition game for both sides.
