Alabama won't bend on Maurice Smith's request to join Georgia
Don't expect Alabama to change its mind on Maurice Smith's transfer restrictions.
The corner is hoping to join Georgia as a graduate transfer, but the Crimson Tide won't allow a move to another SEC program. Smith's family has questioned coach Nick Saban's motives, considering receiver Chris Black was cleared for a transfer to Missouri earlier this year.
Alabama tried to defend its position with a statement Thursday:

Following Alabama's first day of camp, Saban was also asked to comment on the Smith situation.
''I know there's a lot of talk out there and interest in the Maurice Smith deal,'' Saban said. ''Nothing has changed. We support the SEC rule of not granting guys' release to go to other SEC schools. It has been our policy here not to do that unless there was a special circumstance.''
Smith claimed in an appeal letter that he was mistreated by the program after announcing his departure. The senior said belongings from his locker were thrown in the trash and that he was no longer permitted in the athletic facility.
