Adrien Broner gets 30 days in jail for showing up late to court
Former boxing champion Adrien Broner went from the courthouse to the jailhouse in a matter of minutes.
After showing up three hours late for a scheduled court date Tuesday in Cincinnati, Broner was held in contempt of court by Judge Robert Ruehlman and sentenced to 30 days in prison.
Broner's appearance was in regards to a Jan. 21 incident in which he allegedly assaulted and robbed a man behind a bowling alley after a gambling dispute.
The 26-year-old told Judge Ruehlman that someone might have "put something in his drink" the night before the court date that caused him to become ill, according to a FOX affiliate in Cincinnati.
Ruehlman didn't budge on his decision, having already issued a warrant for Broner's arrest when it became clear he wouldn't arrive on time.
To make matters worse, the judge told Broner he was considering dismissing the case entirely if the boxer had appeared when he was supposed to.
Broner will have to return to court on Aug. 17.
