Twitter to dictate colours of Eiffel Tower throughout Euro 2016
Twitter users will have the chance to light up the Eiffel Tower in their country's colours during Euro 2016.
Telecommunications company and tournament sponsor Orange will allow fans to take over France's most popular landmark every night from June 10 to July 10, according to Quartz.
Orange will tally which Euro nation has generated the most attention on Twitter and Instagram through the use of official hashtags. Each window opens a minute past midnight and runs up until 9:30 p.m. that evening.
The lights will most likely reflect the teams playing on a given day. For example, the winner between Italy and Belgium on June 13 would have a great chance of seeing blue or red and yellow in the Paris sky.
Orange will monitor social media for abusive behaviour and inappropriate language, discounting any updates that carry blacklisted words or phrases.
As a result, Euro 2016 could very well drive more user engagement than the 2014 World Cup, which broke a record for any event with 618,725 tweets per minute.
