Minnesota State's McKay wins Hobey Baker Award
Minnesota State-Mankato goaltender Dryden McKay has won the Hobey Baker Award. The NCAA hands out the honor annually to its top men's hockey player.
McKay set an NCAA record for wins this season, going 38-4-0 with a .934 save percentage over 42 games for the Mavericks in 2021-22.
The 24-year-old has led MSU-Mankato to Saturday's national championship game against Denver and fellow Hobey Baker finalist Bobby Brink. The other finalist was University of Minnesota forward Ben Meyers. McKay was also a finalist last season but lost out to Cole Caufield.
Meyers and McKay are NHL free agents, while the Philadelphia Flyers drafted Brink 34th overall in 2019.
McKay is in his senior year. His father Ross played one NHL game in goal for the Hartford Whalers in 1991 and named his son after legendary puck-stopper Ken Dryden.
