TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin was arrested in San Antonio early Thursday morning after engaging in a bar fight and assaulting a police officer, police told NBC affiliate WOAI in San Antonio.

He was booked into Bexar County Jail on a $5,000 bond, and charged with assault of a public servant, which is a third-degree felony, according to the Bexar County Central Magistrate Office. If convicted, Boykin could face jail time.

Boykin is alleged to have been part of an altercation at a bar called Pat O'Brien's shortly before 2 a.m. The incident reportedly took place after a group of patrons recognized him and began taunting him, to which Boykin did not take kindly.

Boykin, 22, was with a group of teammates, and is accused of striking a bar employee as a scuffle ensued. They were all removed from the bar, but the fight continued outdoors. When San Antonio police arrived at the scene to break it up, Boykin allegedly threw an "indiscriminate" punch that hit one of the officers.

Boykin, according to the police report, "was very aggressive and was being held back by the group that he was with. Members of his group stated they would get him back to the hotel they were staying at."

After walking away, however, Boykin charged officers, and they took him to the ground. The senior quarterback was reportedly arrested after authorities threatened to use a stun gun.

The injured officer was treated by emergency medical personnel for lacerations, which were reportedly photographed.

In a statement, TCU's athletic department said: "We are aware of a situation last night and are gathering information. We will continue to closely monitor this and evaluate additional details as they become available."

Sources tell ESPN's Mark Schlabach that Boykin was in his hotel room when TCU coaches did curfew check at midnight, but evidently, the quarterback went back out afterwards.

Boykin has thrown for 3,575 yards with 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this year. He and the Horned Frogs are preparing to take on Oregon in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on Saturday.
