Tuesday night's Boca Raton Bowl between Temple and Toledo will be the final game of Phillip Ely's college career, after the NCAA denied the Rockets quarterback's appeal for a sixth year of eligibility, according to Brett McMurphy of ESPN.
Ely originally enrolled at Alabama where he redshirted for a season before transferring to Toledo. As per NCAA rules, the Tampa, Fla., native was forced to sit out a season once arriving at Toledo, but was hoping to have a season of eligibility restored.
The senior pivot had a successful 2015 season, throwing for 2,680 yards and 21 touchdowns over 11 games.
