For a while it looked like West Virginia was going to keep it close, but Baylor's offense took over in the second half as the Bears went on to rout the Mountaineers 62-38.
Here's what you need to know
- Baylor wide receiver Corey Coleman is now the school-record holder for touchdown catches in a season with 16. He broke the record set by Kendall Wright in 2011 (14) in only six games. On the day, he caught three touchdowns on 199 yards.
- Coleman is also on pace for 36 touchdowns this season. Can you say, Biletnikoff?
- In 115 seasons of Baylor football, wide receivers have caught three touchdowns in a game 10 times. Coleman now accounts for four of them this season.
- Last little fact on Coleman: he has 100 receiving yards and a touchdown in each of his first six games this season. The only others to do that were Justin Blackmon in 2010 and Michael Crabtree in 2007. Both went on to win the award for top wide receiver.
- In the assault, both quarterbacks went toe to toe, with Baylor's Seth Russell coming out on top. Not only did he throw for 380 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions, he also rushed for a game-high 160 yards and a score.
- West Virginia's Skyler Howard threw for four touchdowns and a pick on 289 yards.
Play of the Game
Coleman came into Saturday's game one catch short of tying the all-time school record for receiving touchdowns in a season. It didn't take him long to make the catch and to later on break Wright's record. That said, it was the play in which he didn't score that we've selected as our top play. Simply put, Coleman is too good.
